Promoting Cultural Sensitivity in Supervision: A Manual for Practitioners
Promoting Cultural Sensitivity in Supervision: A Manual for Practitioners provides a roadmap for practicing and experienced supervisors to promote and integrate cultural sensitivity into the core of their work. This book is organized into four seamless, interrelated sections that are essential to developing a Multicultural Relational Perspective (MRP) in supervision: conceptual, structural, strategies and techniques, and evaluation tools. The Conceptual section provides an overview of the theory that underpins a MRP, and the Structural section provides the reader with two specific strategies for concretizing the conceptual framework. The Strategies and Techniques section includes a variety of chapters which provide supervisors and supervisees with hands-on tools for navigating difficult diversity-related conversations in supervision and beyond, as well as an array of exercises that supervisors can employ to enhance cultural sensitivity. The Evaluation Tools section provides sample instruments that can be implemented to evaluate the objectives of the entire supervisory process. For the convenience of readers, additional photocopiable supervisory resources have also been included at the end of the manual. This manual is intended for supervisors, trainers, clinicians, and trainees.
Cultivating Genius: An Equity Framework for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy
In Cultivating Genius, Dr. Gholdy E. Muhammad presents a four-layered equity framework—one that is grounded in history and restores excellence in literacy education. This framework, which she names Historically Responsive Literacy, was derived from the study of literacy development within 19th-century Black literacy societies. The framework is essential and universal for all students, especially youth of color, who traditionally have been marginalized in learning standards, school policies, and classroom practices. The equity framework will help educators teach and lead toward the following learning goals or pursuits:

Don't Look Away: Embracing Anti-Bias Classrooms (early childhood)
Every day, 250 children are suspended from school. Many are children of color, deprived of opportunities to experience learning at the same rate and quality as white children. Many families don't feel heard or respected in their child's schools. Don't Look Away: Embracing Anti-Bias Classrooms leads early childhood professionals to explore and address issues of bias, equity, low expectations, and family engagement to ensure culturally responsive experiences. Importantly, this book will challenge you to consider your perceptions and thought processes: Identify your own unconscious biases; we all have them! Recognize and minimize bias in the classroom, school, and community Connect with children and their families; help close the opportunity gap for children from marginalized communities This book offers strategies, tools, and information to help you create a culturally responsive and equitable learning environment.
Why are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?” And Other Questions About Race
Tatum's groundbreaking book took on this question of self-segregation and explored the realities of race in the public education system. It looked at how issues of race play out on a daily basis — like in something as simple as where you sit to eat your lunch. The book asks how people can talk more openly about racial issues, even if they're uncomfortable. This podcasts references the issues in her book.
